BTP 105: The Fruit of the Spirit
Subtitle: Cultivating Christlike Character
Course Description
Welcome to BTP 105. This course moves from abstract theology to the very heart of the believer’s transformation: the development of a character that reflects God Himself. We will conduct a detailed examination of Galatians 5:22-23, analyzing the ninefold “fruit of the Spirit.” We will connect each characteristic of the fruit to its deep roots in the Tanakh (the Old Testament), exploring Hebrew concepts like chesed (covenant love), shalom (holistic peace), and anavah (humble strength). This is not a course on behavior modification, but on Spirit-led sanctification. Our goal is to understand how the Ruach HaKodesh (the Holy Spirit) produces this singular, beautiful fruit in those who walk in covenant with Him through Messiah Yeshua.
Course Structure
This course is composed of five chapters, each building upon the last to provide a comprehensive understanding of the fruit of the Spirit. Each chapter includes a detailed summary, five in-depth lessons, a chapter test, and an optional “Deep Dive” for further study. The course culminates in a final course test.

Course Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Articulate the Context: Explain the legal and theological contrast between the “works of the flesh” and the “fruit of the Spirit” within the argument of Galatians.
- Define Each Attribute: Provide a robust definition for each of the nine characteristics of the fruit, incorporating both the Greek terms and their corresponding Hebrew concepts.
- Identify the Source: Explain the exclusive role of the Holy Spirit in producing the fruit, distinguishing it from mere human effort or personality traits.
- Trace the Roots: Connect the fruit of the Spirit to its foundational concepts and examples in the Torah, Writings, and Prophets.
- Apply the Principles: Formulate practical strategies for yielding to the Spirit’s work and cultivating this Christlike character in daily life.
